Vegan Mofo Day 11: Around the House

Five mornings a week, Tony and Jackson leave the house together. Tony drops Jackson at school, then heads to work. And the house is quiet.

After fixing breakfast for Olivia and myself, I water the plants, do what chores need to be done, and straighten what needs to be straightened.

Usually I will burn some incense or a wax tart while I am putting things in order and deciding how we will spend the day.

Then Olivia inevitably asks if we can play a board game or two. And I inevitably say yes. If she starts beating me too badly, she will put her little hand on my shoulder and say, "It's okay, Mama. I will win for both of us."

Tonight's dinner: tacos with chickpea chorizo, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and hot sauce. Recipe courtesy of Krys. Such great Tex-Mex flavor in this chorizo. A pleasant variation from our usual lentil taco filling.

Since we have reached the halfway point in Vegan MoFo 2014, I thought I'd share my purely subjective list of daily "must-read" blogs I've discovered in the past couple of weeks.

Veganopoulos - Her theme is "Will My Kids Eat It?" and her commentary is freaking hilarious.

The Silver Threads of Alice B. - She cracks me up, too.

Detroit Made - Shout out to my home town!

Vegan Cookaholic - She's tackling French Canadian cuisine, the food of my mother's people (although my mother never made us a vegan tourtiere...what's up with that, Mom?)

Kittens Gone Lentil is cooking Robin Robertson recipes all month, and we all know how prolific and amazing Robin is!

Mammi is sharing Finnish coffee table culture with the world.

New Orleans in Green is veganizing traditional New Orleans favorites.

Rosie's Vegan Kitchen is sharing vegan versions of Welsh classics.

Finally, not a new discovery for me, but local bloggers Red Hot Vegans are listing their top 20 veggie-centric Austin dishes, and making me soooo hungry in the process!

  3. How cute is olivia at playing with you - and I love her lunch but I am not sure if I need my grapes any sweeter - I love them just a little tart (not too much) but it is a cute name for them. Now off to visit a few of the blogs you mentioned
