Art in Fort Worth

Over the weekend, we road-tripped to Fort Worth to see the Kehinde Wiley exhibit at the modern art museum. On our way, we stopped for lunch at El Fenix. I ordered one of the specials, veggie enchiladas with tomatillo avocado sauce. Tasty!

We all shared a piece of tres leches cake for dessert. Loved the chocolate ganache.

The museum offers a great family-friendly environment, with free admission every Sunday, and sketch books for the kids. I intend to have them bring sketch books to any future art shows, what a fantastic idea for keeping them involved!

We first saw this artist's work in New York several years ago. I love the references to Renaissance art and the organic, vine patterns that run through all of his work.

The stained glass room was gorgeous, although we had to remind Olivia a few times not to touch. The bright colors were calling out to her!

Next, we meandered through the rest of the museum. Andy Warhol is one of my favorites. Olivia thought it was funny to see all the cans of soup in a row.

There were a couple of paintings by Tony's favorite, Gerhard Richter.

This Anselm Keifer sculpture was my favorite thing in the museum.

Some inspirational words from Jenny Holzer. I, too, would like to do nothing every day.

When the kids started to get bored, we went outside to explore the grounds.

Admiring the silver metal trees.

The kids were excited to play in this thing, because if you made noise inside it, it echoed loudly off the walls.

Jackson looking cherubic, which is funny if you know him.

A successful visit! I had fun talking to Jackson and Olivia about certain works of art and getting their opinions. It is always interesting to learn how they interpret the world around them.

Orange Everywhere

It is that time of year when I am buying a lot of things that are orange.

Sure, there's the occasional rainbow-colored, yet still seasonally appropriate item, such as the autumn collection of Method hand soaps: kelly moss, white cranberry, and rice milk mallow.

But mostly, orange, and pumpkin-related.

We've also tried the candy corn M&Ms, which I preferred, being a white chocolate fan.

And, we also tried the caramel apple Oreo's, but these pumpkin spice ones are amazing.

Pumpkin tres leches cake from HEB, so good.

Pumpkin pie spice peanut butter! This was sold out the first time I searched for it at Target. Of course I went back.

My breakfast this week: oats with almond milk, maca, pumpkin pie PB, cacao nibs, and a touch of maple syrup.

HEB is having an Italian promotion this week and they have all kinds of oddly-shaped pastas on sale. I picked up some armoniche (harmonica-shaped) and a jar of alla norma sauce. Stir in some green olives and we have dinner!

Olivia totally gets the orange theme.

She keeps asking how many days till Halloween. I think we need a countdown calendar.
