Vegan MoFo 2013, Day 1

Happy Vegan MoFo 2013! And if you are a new visitor to my blog, welcome!

If you're a regular reader, you know that I am vegetarian, not vegan, and my husband and kids are omnivores. However, most of the food I make at home is vegan. This month, everything I post will be vegan!

My original plan for MoFo was to cook only from Sarah Kramer's cookbooks for the month of September.
I started out on track. Last night's dinner was Wolffie's Pasta Salad from La Dolce Vegan. I made the faux pepperoni myself, using the recipe from Vegan on the Cheap (not a Sarah Kramer book...can you see I'm already slippin'?) This recipe was a hit for the whole family. The salty, spicy pepperoni takes regular pasta salad to the next level.

So it's only day one, and I have to be honest with myself, and with y'all...I'm not sticking with three cookbooks for the whole month. So I have no theme. Except for my usual theme, which is to show you the meals I cook every day for my family -- inspired by various cookbooks, fellow bloggers, restaurant meals, a recent trip to New Mexico, and hopefully the occasional original recipe thrown in. There will also be pictures of these two.

I hope you'll return to see what I come up with for the next 29 days. See you tomorrow!

  1. I used to love pepperoni! Going to have to check that book out. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the rest of the month, especially since I do actually own La Dolce Vegan and have only cooked one thing from it so far!

  2. Hi, just found your blog thanks to vegan MOFO. I will have to see if my library has the book you made your pepperoni from. I am always on the lookout for another recipe that my omnivore hubby will enjoy. Looking forward for another Texans blog.

    1. Hi Sheree, thanks for visiting! My husband actually prefers this stuff over real pepperoni (less greasy). I found the recipe online. http://spearfamilyculinaryadventures.blogspot.com/2011/06/vegan-big-stick-pepperoni.html

  3. That salad looks good. I have a hard time getting into Sarah Kramer's books because of the font. I'm excited to see what you make (when you do use her books) because so many people love her.

    1. I do get distracted by the random use of italics, now that you mention fonts. But there are some good recipes in all 3 -- I'll try to make some favorites this month.

  4. I didn't know it was Vegan Mofo! How are people supposed to know that?

    1. I'm not on the PPK really, so I'm not sure whose blog I heard about it from!

  5. Hello again, Sara. Thought I'd pop in and see what you're up to, and boy, this sounds tasty. Going to try that pepperoni idea - fun! And if it makes you feel any better, I have absolutely no theme for Vegan MoFo either. Isn't it just enough to get something up every day?! I think so! Gail (aka Kitwocky)
