Change

Hi all...notice anything different? Yes, I've renamed my blog (even though I'm too technologically inept to change the web address!)

A confession (which I think many of you already know) -- I've never been 100% vegan. I cooked vegan at home for a year and a half, and that was the focus of my blog. But I was OK with eating vegetarian in restaurants and other people's homes. Tony, the kids, and our extended families are all omnivorous, so this was a compromise that made things easier for everyone. Well, lately I've been cooking the occasional vegetarian meal at home. And liking it. I was vegetarian for most of my life, switching to veganism after Olivia was born. For now, vegetarianism once again feels like the "right" diet for me. I didn't want to come off like a fraud, so I figured a name change was in order!

Vegan readers, I hope you'll continue to visit my blog, as I'll be reading yours.  But I understand if you choose not to. I think the majority of my posts will still be about vegan food. I was never a big consumer of dairy. I am rediscovering it in small doses, like a sprinkling of feta cheese on a salad.

Last night, I made the Jambalaya from Peas and Thank You. Very tasty.

Tony loved it, mainly because I used Field Roast Apple Sage sausages.  He's caught the cold I am just getting over, so I'm trying to give him his favorite foods. I always baby him to the max when he is sick. I think that when our loved ones are sick, our tendency is to treat them how we want to be treated when we're sick. I throw a pity party for myself and want to be fussed over, while my stoic husband wants zero fuss made and just wants to be left alone (I still baby him, though.)  This afternoon I took the kids to run errands, to give him a little peace and quiet, and now we are off to do some baking while he rests on the couch.

  1. I did exactly the same thing a few months ago... now my blog's name can mean vegan or vegetarian and I can do both without feeling like I'm lying to somebody. Right now I'm in a vegan phase... before Chritmas I had a lot of cheese but I'm ok with that! The important it's that you feel good about what you eat! I'll continue to follow your blog for sure!!

  2. I do the same thing... My body naturally WANTS to be vegan, but sometimes its good for me to be not so strict and be vegetarian. I like the title- Veggies are good for us! I've been eating a lot more veggies lately in preparation to have my 3rd baby, and it feels so good- my kids will scarf down a huge salad full of veggies, and ask for more broccoli! Your recipes always sound so yummy and a little out of my skill level, but thanks for the inspiration! I never comment because I read this in my RSS feed, so sorry if I sound like a stalker :)

  3. It's important for you to do what's right for YOU and YOU only. I / we are not here to judge. I appreciate the work you do for your blog and love the glimpse you give us into your life. I will continue to follow your blog!

  4. I'm right there with you -- I worried about being a fraud since I eat calamari or mussels sometimes. I was seriuosly craving them when I was figuring out the B12 deficiency (fixed with injections now). I changed my blog name to "A Midlife Vegan+" I do mostly eat vegan food, but the "+" gives me a little honest wiggle room. I don't do dairy, but I think it turns out I'm lactose intolerant anyway, so I'm not tempted. I really enjoy your blog and will certainly continue to follow what you do.
