I adore basil. We don't get enough sunlight on our little porch to grow our own basil, but in the summertime I can always find giant bunches at the supermarket at a good price. The other day I bought a huge bag of dried basil and left it in my car while I ran the rest of my errands. Now I'm thinking I should make basil sachets and leave them around the house because, oh my god, my car smells wonderful.
Although she is by no means vegan, I like the way Nigella Lawson writes and talks about food. Everything sounds so luscious and decadent. Her pea pesto soup from Nigella Express is so simple, takes all of 10 minutes to make, and I never get tired of it. Pesto (jarred works fine or make your own), peas, water and salt -- that's it. I think the recipe also calls for scallions, but I only put them in if I happen to have some on hand.
Who doesn’t have a bag of cute little frozen peas patiently waiting in the freezer, hoping to be transformed into something this delicious?
hey sara,
ReplyDeletei think you've visited my blog before. sorry it has taken me so long to get to yours. great stuff! and yes, i'm a bizzay vegan mamma myself. i'll have to try that lentil chili.
Great color. I tried making pea soup (not split pea, I love that) and it wasn't so great. Maybe I'll try again.
