Review: Rhythm Superfoods

Recently the kind folks at Rhythm Superfoods sent me a selection of their raw, vegan snacks to sample.

First, two flavors of Sweet Potato Chips -- Sea Salt and Hickory BBQ.

Since the chips are dehydrated rather than fried (like typical potato chips), they're fat-free.  The chips are crispy when you bite into them, but then they sort of "rehydrate" as you chew them and, well, they seemed to require a lot of chewing.  It's not an unpleasant texture -- just different from a regular potato chip. The sea salt flavor is very lightly salted, allowing the sweetness of the yam to take center stage. I preferred the savory, smoky hickory BBQ flavor.

Next up, two flavors of kale chips -- Kool Ranch and Mango Habanero.

What can I say about Kool Ranch? You will not feel like you're eating a healthy snack. Salty, crunchy, ranch-flavored goodness. Think Cool Ranch Doritos in kale chip form. Olivia loved these. So did I. The texture is just perfect -- the chips stay totally crispy in their little pouch.

I was a little intimidated by the Mango Habanero flavor. Habanero peppers are hot!  These chips do pack some heat, but it's nicely tempered by a hint of sweet mango fruitiness. Very addictive. Just keep a cold beverage nearby.

While not blown away by the sweet potato chips, we all agreed that the kale chips are an awesome snack, as well as a great way to get kids to eat their greens. Rhythm also produces Zesty Nacho, Bombay Curry, and Texas BBQ flavored kale chips. Don't those sound good, too?

Jackson had a great checkup at the dentist yesterday. They gave him some cool glasses as a prize. Here he is showing off his sweet shades, and also his pearly whites.

Since she waited so patiently while Jackson got his teeth cleaned, there was also a pair for Olivia...or Elton, as we've been calling her.

  1. I love review posts! Those kale chips sound great. I'll have to look for them. I've tried making my own but they always come out terrible :)
