Review: Alexia

I think my love of Alexia sweet potato puffs and fries has been well-documented on my blog. My own soggy attempts at sweet potato fries were not cutting it, so their frozen products have been a godsend whenever I am craving crispy, crunchy fries.  So it's no surprise that I was thrilled when Alexia contacted me about sampling some of their other products.

First -- the puffs. Crispy, bite-sized, think sweet potato tater tots. They're so sweet. You could probably drizzle maple syrup on them and eat them as a dessert. I tried eating them with ketchup like a regular tater tot, but I found that what I really like to dip them in is Veganaise mixed with sriracha sauce. The sweet/savory/spicy combo is what I always crave.

One night I made the tofu migas from Quick-Fix Vegan, with plenty of avocado, and baked up some puffs to serve on the side. A great substitute for home fries.  If your supermarket stocks these puffs, seriously, do your tastebuds a favor and try them.

Next we tried the Harvest Saute. This is a side dish consisting of red potatoes, carrots, green beans, and onions. It comes with a packet of seasoned oil. You preheat the oil, then saute the veggies in it for 12 minutes. That's it. I liked how super fast it was. The flavor was spot on. I used the entire oil packet and the veggie were a tad bit on the oily side, but you could easily control how much oil you use.

Finally, we enjoyed the Oven Crinkles with salt and pepper. These crinkle-cut fries baked up nice and crispy/crunchy, and the generous black pepper seasoning gave them a nice kick. Perfect with veggie hot dogs.

Alexia offers a whole line of frozen foods ranging from onion rings to ciabatta rolls. I didn't know this until recently. Now I'll be on the lookout, since I love their potato products so much.

Today while Jackson was at school, Olivia and I attended a birthday party for one of the other little girls in our playgroup. I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but Olivia loves Chuck E. Cheese. More specifically, she loves the rides. She rode this little car twelve times in a row. Not kidding.

Then she moved on to the monster truck. No fear, my girl!

Hope you're having a great day!

  2. Those Sweet Potato Puffs look great! I'm getting a little tired of homemade-mushy sweet potato fries, so I might have to give the Alexia fries a try. Thanks for sharing! ( :
